Knowing this, please put together a proposal for a successful online coverage of the mass shooting incidents like that recent one in D.C. You are an editor offering this proposal to your bosses. What should your website do not only to effectively convey info about the shooting, but also to bring together citizens in the kind of civic debate about public affairs that journalism is supposed to foster? How does the “communication as ritual” theory (see Carey article) inform your strategy?
